A Lagos based non governmental organization; Shuwa Arab Development Initiatives (SADI) has organized a skill acquisition and vocational training to empower women in the Shuwa Arab community in Lagos. The empowerment program which has the aim of liberating women from poverty was an opportunity for the women to learn vocational skills in soap making, baking, candle making among other household materials.

Journalists for Christ (JFC), an organization for Christian journalists in Nigeria has called for an end to the incessant killings in parts of Plateau State. In a statement by the Administrative Secretary of the organization, Dayo Emmanuel, the group said it is unfortunate that indiscriminate killings of innocent people has continued in the state despite efforts by the state, federal and religious groups.

Professional journalists in Madagascar, including those related to church-related communications departments, have been facing mounting pressure from government to cease commenting critically on the country's current political crisis. In the interest of the right to communicate, WACC supports calls for freedom of expression in Madagascar and for protection of journalists.

The seminar which will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 26-27th March 2010, is intended for journalists in print or broadcast media or communication officers who report on or are interested in reporting on conflict situations.

WACC Africa region invites you to participate in this seminar. To apply, send a request to the WACC Africa Secretariat. Please put "Peace Journalism seminar" in the subject line. The application deadline is 5th March 2010. Successful applicants will be informed by 10th March 2010.
